Preventative Maintenance

|
What is preventative Maintenance? If we where able to detect a potential fault occurring on any piece of equipment before it causes major problems, then we have prevented a break down of that vital equipment. Thus preventing excessive down time on production units and in some cases if the fault is rectified earlier, the cost of repairs. This is the concept of "Preventative Maintenance". How do we go about this? There are two methods that OTS can use for the early detection of potential problem areas 1. The measurement of excessive Vibration and 2. The measurement of Excessive heat. Excessive Vibration: By using a highly sensitive vibration measuring detector, the early detection of bearing failure on Pumps, Machine Ball Screws and Spindles can be determined and rectified in a planned manner. Excessive Heat: With modern Heat Detection equipment now available, a simple scan of control equipment can early detect loose connections and burning Contacts in Electrical Control Panels. By detecting early, the problem can be rectified at a reduced cost of repair, downtime of plant and loss of production. By using the above methods of preventative maintenance, you become in control of the equipment and not the equipment in control of you. OTS Proposal: With a planned execution program of monitoring equipment using both of the above methods, a system of working could be established and records recorded on computer. A data base would then be built up on various machines and any signs of deterioration would be early detected. A full report of such finding would be past onto the respected personnel, who would determine what action is needed. What Next: This would depend on the customer, either the repairs would be done with the customers own maintenance personnel, preferred contractor or OTS can take on the repairs if requested. |
